After spending a few hours yesterday doing research, I just ordered my new box. It’s a Lenovo ThinkPad T61. Reviews say it’s superior at handling multimedia (good for vidding!), is designed for durability (so it will last longer than this one), and has a brilliant cooling system (very important; more details on that later).
For the moment, I’m borrowing my roommate’s computer (with her permission) for little things. Large projects will be worked on in the library. Creative projects are postponed altogether.
When I have a stable setup again, and when I have seen whether tech support can salvage anything at all, I’ll type up a full review of my old box (an Acer TravelMate 8200).
In the meantime, while the new one is being shipped, there’s nothing left to do but wait.
And catch up on my reading. And homework.
And, of course, try to pick a name. My old laptop was named Lister; our wireless network at home is Rimmer; my external hard drive is Kochanski; my dad has a laptop named Kryten. That covers most of the main Red Dwarf characters. In naming this one, I’m torn between “Nirvanah” and “Camille”.
