Never gonna give you up

September 25, 2008

Just got back from an iftar, the traditional fast-breaking meal to celebrate the end of Ramadan. (And if you don’t know what Ramadan is, get to Wikipedia, stat.) Not everyone there was Muslim (obviously, as I was there), and not all of us fasted, but it was a nice cultural experience. And the food was good.

But the reason I bring this up is not to extol the falafels and the baklava. (If you don’t know what baklava is, get to a place that sells it and eat some, stat. Your tongue will thank you.)

It’s because the room next door was holding ’70s Night. Complete with loud music, period costume, and people doing the Electric Slide.

So the people in our room are setting up an iTunes playlist with some nice contemporary sitar music, and it’s humming bravely along, and guess what starts pounding next door?

That’s right, folks. The iftar got Rickrolled.

  1. Wait a minute – that song is from the 80’s, not the 70’s! So it’s an anachronistic time paradox Rick Roll!

    Be glad the LHC is offline, or you may have divided by zero there.

  2. Wouldn’t it be celebrating the end of Ramadan?

    Anyway, I will try some baklava the next time I am downtown. What is it exactly?

  3. Er, yes, end. I don’t know why I wrote beginning o_o;

    It’s flaky pastry with nuts and honey, and it’s fantastic.
