1. Seagullsong - September 24, 2009

1. I’m Makenzie in real life, and either Seagullsong or Snowcat on the internet. Honestly, I have waaay too many nicknames. Almost everyone I knows calls me something different.
2. April 29, 1992 (If you write that European/Spanish style with the date first instead of the month it’s like a number palindrome. 29/4/92. Well. I think it’s cool. :P
3. Anchorage, Alaska.
4. I’m in my last year of high school, but I’m in an early honors program at Alaska Pacific University, so I’m basically in college. ^^
5. Cinnamon rolls. My cats. Hanging out with geeky people. Being quiet and completely present somewhere with moss and blue sky and squirrels in the trees.
6. I just stole a bunch of my dad’s cds to put the songs on my laptop. :D Paul Simon, Michael Franti, The Beautiful South, etc.
7. Uh. You’re interested in practically everything that I’m interested in, so you always have cool links and things. Oh, and sometimes you’ll draw/write stuff for us if we ask. : )
8. If I keep growing it out, I will have hair exactly like Tom Baker’s by Halloween. I swear. This is actually a very vital part of my Halloween plans…
9. Yeah, actually, I am…with a very awesome bi boy who loves baking, talking politics, and every show I introduce him to. (TDS, Torchwood…the list goes on.)
10. Man, right here. In my papasan chair, with my laptop, in my room that I have painted three different shades of green, ceiling-to-floor. (Actually, I painted the floor green too. BECAUSE I CAN.)
11. Here’s the first stanza of a poem has been stuck in my head all day. I guess it counts as a quote.

“GLORY be to God for dappled things—
For skies of couple-colour as a brinded cow;
For rose-moles all in stipple upon trout that swim;
Fresh-firecoal chestnut-falls; finches’ wings;
Landscape plotted and pieced—fold, fallow, and plough;
And áll trádes, their gear and tackle and trim.”

12. This year? Probably will be Thanksgiving, because the aforementioned awesome person is coming home from college, and I miss him. Usually, I like spring, when the catkins are just appearing on the pussy willows.
13. Well, I am actually very fond of tofu, which most people seem to think is strange. I tried whale once, but it was gross.

1. The Crying Game is a pretty intense movie. If you haven’t seen it, you should. There’s a TV Trope named after it(about movies where the dramatic plot twist is the only thing your friends tell you about it beforehand). Also, Harold and Maude, but I’m sure you’ve seen that. Right?
2. Robert J. Sawyer is a Canadian science fiction writer who is excellent at creating interestingly alien societies and engaging characters. Absolutely check out the Neanderthal Parallax trilogy. (There’s some interesting religious stuff in it, including a Catholic main character and an entire species of atheists on a parallel earth. Reeeaad iiit.)
3. Song time! I highly recommend anything and everything by Libby Roderick, but she’s a local artist and it’s almost impossible to find stuff by her on the interwebs. I’ll have to find one of those music sharing sites sometime soon, I guess. “Song For Whoever” is my current favorite song by The Beautiful South, just for the line “I love you from the bottom of my pencil case.” :D

1. Favorite Fandom? Probably Fake News, because the people/writers/artists/fans are all ridiculously awesome. I geek out about Star Trek quite a lot. The Sherlock Holmes fandom has some breathtakingly amazing fic, and I’ve seen your icon around the Jeeves and Wooster and Good Omens fan communities on LJ a few times.
2. *sigh* Jon/Stephen. It’s pretty much required.
3. My icon’s a picture of a seagull, and I don’t write enough to have a fic journal..is that what this question meant?

1. You seem to have an endless supply of creativity. Your writing/art is both prolific and high quality, which is rare. ^^ Oh, and you started this survey with a Bilbo Baggins quote.
2. I’m startlingly good at crossword puzzles, and I’m very, very honest.
3. Actually, I think I will! It’s a nice meme. : )

SS - September 25, 2009

Funny that you should think tofu a “weird food”. >< Tofu's a really popular dish/snack item over here…

Seagullsong - September 25, 2009

Where’s “over here”? And yeah, I grew up eating it all the time, but I don’t eat a lot of meat, and most of my carnivorous American friends think it’s icky.

Seagullsong - September 25, 2009

Doh. Singapore. Just read your reply. :P

canadian_plant - September 25, 2009

Robert J. Sawyer! \o/ I just bought his new book, but haven’t had a chance to read it. I LOVE the Neanderthal Parallax. Haven’t run into too many fans of his.

Erin Ptah - September 28, 2009

Yep, I’ve seen Harold and Maude. Didn’t care for it, oddly enough. But it was a while ago.

Definitely going to have to put that trilogy on my list!

Any chance you could upload some Libby Roderick songs? They sound gorgeous, but I’ve only found them on YouTube, where the quality isn’t great.

I took the question to mean “what is the journal where you post icons and/or fic.” And probably mixes/wallpapers/whatever else people create separate journals to post.

…and, er, I would respond to this in your journal, but it’s set to “only friends can comment” ^_^;

2. Tchy - September 24, 2009

1. Name (and what should I call you?): I am Tchy, and this is what you should call me. Everyone does, even my dad. Tchy is pronounced tCHEE and is only one syllable.
2. Birthday: MY BIRTHDAY IS IN A WEEK AHHHHH. October first, and I’m turning eighteen.
3. Where do you live: I usually live in Canada except right now I’m in France, for the next nine months. After that I will be back where I belong. Your French is good, btw, and I’m thoroughly enjoying this Coyote flashback righthererighnow.
4: What are you studying/What’s your job: I am lacking in both studies and employment. I don’t think I’m legally allowed to get a job in France, and I’m taking a gap year until I go back to Canada and start an English degree at the University of Ottawa.
5. What makes you happy: EVERYTHING. I am likely one of the most stupidly, regularly happy people you will ever meet. Specifically, my girlfriend, writing, chocolate, Alice in Wonderland, strong tea, thunderstorms, and loud punk music.
6. What are you listening to now/have listened to last: At the moment I’m listening to a playlist of three Chris de Burgh CDs. The song is currently The Last Time I Cried. This isn’t so much my usual fare as a bit of quiet time brought on by nostalgia.
7. Why you’re reading my journal: Because I just noticed it was here and all new and shiny looking and attached to your comic.
8. An interesting fact about you: I’m currently in the process of writing the script for a graphic novel, which will be published on the net in a year or so when I return to Canada and my girlfriend and I have a chance to get out act together. I’m also working on a comprehensive reference file about my fantasy world, a novella-length Alice in Wonderland story, and the plan for a future novel. Yes, I’m obsessed with writing.
9. Are you in love/do you have a crush at the moment OR name an important person in your life: My most important person in the world is my girlfriend. We’ve been together over a year now and we’re planning to stay with each other forever. <3
10. Favorite place to be: No particular place, though I absolutely love the city I'm living in right now (Toulouse). My favourite place to be is wherever my girl is.
11. A favorite quote: "History is the product of war," David Eddings. Or ""There are four questions of value in life… What is sacred? Of what is the spirit made? What is worth living for, and what is worth dying for? The answer to each is the same. Only love," which I found credited to Johnny Depp.
12. Best time of the year: Falllllll! <3 October is my favourite month, and it really has nothing to do with the fact that it holds my birthday.
13. Weirdest food you like: I'm not sure what to define as "weird." My family eats all kind of strange ethnic foods that my parents started experimenting with when I was young, so I grew up with them… Recently I have become fond of pizza with potatoes on it? That is a French thing.

RECOMMEND
1. A film: I have way too many favourites. Pan's Labyrinth, the Fifth Element, Chicago, Labyrinth, Take the Lead, Wall-E, the Mask of Zorro, Dogma, Slumdog Millionaire…
2. A book: Likewise way too many. I'll keep it brief and say the Modern Faery Tale series by Holly Black, the His Dark Materials series by Philip Pullman, the Bartimaeus Trilogy by Jonathan Stroud, Little Brother by Cory Doctorow, A Brother's Price by Wen Spencer, The Gargoyle by Andrew Davidson, and of course Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass by Lewis Carroll.
3. A song: Pretty much anything by the Clash or Coldplay. I also listen to Mika far too much, and have recently been hooked on both Sum 41 and Paul Simon–weird combination, I know. Current single song favourites are Here Come the Guns by Choo Choo la Rouge, Mr Hurricane by Beast, Sing Sing by Claude Nougaro, and Jai Ho from the Slumdog Millionaire soundtrack. I also have a tendency to get obsessed with anything that reminds me of my characters, and that's a 51-song playlist.

FANDOM
1. Favorite Fandom: Two answers to that. My favourite fandom to write in is Alice in Wonderland–the books, not the movies, though I do love them, too. However, my favourite creative works in existence, and the ones that have inspired me the most, are Holly Black's Modern Faery Tales. I hold them in such high esteem that I have trouble writing fanfiction for them, because I might get something wrong, and I know I could never write Holly Black's world as well as she does. Both of these varieties of fandom induce lots of squealing.
2. OTP/OT3: For Alice in Wonderland it's the Cheshire Cat and the White Rabbit. In the Modern Faery Tales (totally canon, too, which just makes it better), it's Corny and Luis. <3
3. Icon/Fic Journal: If I'm reading this question right, I don't have either of those, but I do have a FictionPress account (Tchy), a Fanfiction.net account (also Tchy), and a personal (incomplete) website, which will shortly have some of my fiction on it.

PLUS
1. One thing you like about me: Your art style is wonderful and I think it's amazing how you visibly improve yourself with every storyline. That takes dedication. You're also very personable with your fans, and willing to laugh at yourself. *Thumbsup'd.*
2. Two things you like about yourself: I have a creativity fountain in my brain that I couldn't figure out how to shut off if I wanted to. I'm also really smart. And confident (and/or egotistical, take your pick). I generally like pretty much everything about myself. I'm also, through no real fault of my own, incredibly lucky. It's nice.
3. Put this in your journal so I can tell you what I think of you? (Entirely optional.) I don't actually have one, so looks like a no. I have a travel blog, but it's more about my experiences abroad. You can tell me what you think of me anyway? xD

Erin Ptah - September 28, 2009

Happy almost-birthday!

Oddly enough, I think I’ve seen most of your recommended movies, and never heard of most of your recommended books.

Pizza with potatoes? Definitely weirder by my standards ^_^;

Will have to check out Holly Black’s work! Don’t know you too well, but you seem to have good taste =P

3. Lesath - September 24, 2009

6. What are you listening to now/have listened to last: The above-linked song. By Last.fm, however, ThouShaltNot – Come a Time.
7. Why you’re reading my journal: Because I’ve known you for seven years and it’s really just habit by now.
8. An interesting fact about you: I… like pineapple on my pizza? I… can touch my nose with my tongue? I… am boring.
9. Are you in love/do you have a crush at the moment OR name an important person in your life: Umm… there are a lot of important people in my life, but I don’t think you know any of them, really, so that would mean nothing to you…
10. Favorite place to be: In my room.

12. Best time of the year: Whenever the weather is good… which, in Toronto, is never.
13. Weirdest food you like: I had calf’s liver the other week and that was pretty good… I also pretty much universally like seafood, no matter how “weird”.

RECOMMEND
1. A film: Awakenings.
2. A book: Coraline, but since you’ve probably already read that, maybe The Nurture Assumption by Judith Rich Harris? Seems to be what I’m rec’ing to everyone lately, anyway.

Erin Ptah - September 28, 2009

I like the quote.

“I can write a grammatically correct sentence in standard English…” Which puts you above a good 90% of the Internet.

And, ah, you already know what I think of you. Good things, all :)

Erin Ptah - September 28, 2009

“I like slash and yaoi, so what?”

You’re in good company!

“Icon/Fic Journal: … WHAT? o_O”

Some people have journals solely dedicated to icons and/or fiction (and sometimes graphics, mixes, or other fanworks). Doesn’t seem true for most people here, but the meme did originate on LJ.

6. SS - September 25, 2009

1. Name (and what should I call you?): (seeing as this blog is freely viewable by everyone) “StrangeSingaporean” Ring a bell, somehow? It’s been a couple of years since I’ve corresponded with you through email. ^^;;

2. Birthday: 19 January

3. Where do you live: Singapore

4: What are you studying/What’s your job: In secondary school, so it’s more like “subjects” and not “courses”. But anyway, I’m taking biology and chemistry (“pure” syllabus), “core” literature and history (elective).

5. What makes you happy: Sweet art from or of any of my many fandoms. And good food, of course. Good grades (better than what I’m getting now, anyway) wouldn’t hurt either. :P

6. What are you listening to now/have listened to last: The Observatory’s latest album, “Dark Folke”.

7. Why you’re reading my journal: Friends and fans do that, don’t they?

8. An interesting fact about you: Most people wouldn’t believe me if I said it, but I honestly think that I’m one of those people born with low-level mental capabilities. Cutting a long story short, I still exhibit some signs of having once been mentally retarded: I take a significant amount of time to respond to stimuli or process information.

9. Are you in love/do you have a crush at the moment OR name an important person in your life: Not right now. At least, I try not to be. ^^;;

10. Favorite place to be: A cool, air-conditioned place that, regardless of how crowded or deserted it it, is still spacious enough for me to move comfortably.

11. A favorite quote: “O hell! To choose love by another’s eyes/Or, if there were a sympathy in choice, war, death or sickness did lay siege to it” –Hermia and Lysander; Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream

(I don’t really have *a* favourite quote; I love lots of quotes and have stored them all somewhere (though most’re in my head), varying from long sentences to short phrases. I chose the above quote because I’d only just been re-reading that book for my exam)

12. Best time of the year: The December holidays–when it’s cool and there’s no school!

…pity that homework is still lopped onto our heads before we’re given our “holidays”.

13. Weirdest food you like: Escargot. I’ve only ever eaten it cooked a certain way, though, so I doubt I’d eat any if they don’t appear as appetising as those that I’d had.

RECOMMEND
1. A film: Can’t think of any right now because I’ve been pre-occupied with TV serials and examinations. Instead, I’ll recommend Battlestar Galactica (the re-imagined series) and The Mentalist.

2. A book: hOme by Frank Ronan.

3. A song: A Shuffler In The Mud by The Observatory

FANDOM
1. Favorite Fandom: Hellsing (mostly cos it’s the only fandom I’ve been immersed in for so long. I’m bad at picking favourites.)

2. OTP/OT3: PipxSeras

3. Icon/Fic Journal: Haven’t written anything in a long time.

PLUS
1. One thing you like about me: Your sensible snark. (notice I actually tried to sneak in “two” point(s)? :P)

2. Two things you like about yourself: My unusual sense of humour; my independence (in terms of never allowing myself to be carried along by the waves of the majority unless for particular reasons).

3. Put this in your journal so I can tell you what I think of you? (Entirely optional.) Sure. Though I doubt that you’ve actually read anything there. XD

Erin Ptah - September 28, 2009

The name does sound familiar!
